Manila, Philippines January 4, 2018 — This is a landmark moment in Philippine esports history. A local television giant is entering the local esports scene as Tier One, the first esports and gaming talent agency in the country partners with ABS-CBN for its first fully tagalog esports broadcast.

The coverage will feature local Tier One talents and shoutcasters you regularly see on WomboXcombo such as Nico “Kuyanic” Nazario, Jaz “Heneral Tuna” Comoda, Bianca “Biancake” Yao, and more.

In an official statement, our C.E.O. Tryke Gutierrez said this about the partnership:

“I truly believe that in order for esports to be appreciated by a wider audience here in the Philippines, it has to be covered by local esports talents in the local language.”

He added that “Most sports coverages are done in tagalog, why not esports?” I’m just happy to have one of the biggest networks in the country believe in what we’re trying to achieve.”

Tier One has accomplished a lot since it started in 2017, but the dream was always for esports to be under a spotlight where the eyes of mainstream audiences could see. And what better platform than television?

For those who don’t know, esports has been a rising phenomenon all over the world, especially in the last few years. From the League of Legends World Championship drawing in over 30 million viewers to Dota 2’s The International giving out prize pools of nearly 1.2 Billion Pesos, esports has grown to rival traditional sports as a must-watch modern spectacle of skill and competition.

Locally, several tournaments have also been held such as the Manila Majors and Manila Masters which have had tickets sold out for the tournament dates; a testament to how much the Philippine audience yearns for this kind of modern sports entertainment.

So on January 21, 2018, you can watch the final day of the Galaxy Battles II: Emerging Worlds Dota Major, live on ABS-CBN Sports and Action. The event will be held in the Philippine Arena this January 19 – 21. It will feature 16 of the best teams in the world featuring a prize pool of 1 million USD. One of the teams competing in the event is the Filipino fan favorite TNC Pro Team.

The broadcast will be the first time a major esports event is televised in the Filipino language. We now have our foot in the door, and Tier One will continue to work tirelessly so that networks and companies of ABS-CBN’s caliber see the value in bringing esports and gaming to as many eyes as possible.

The future of esports in the Philippines is looking bright. If like us, you can’t wait to see what’s in store this year, then stay tuned and don’t touch that remote!
